Journal History

Irrigation and Melioration is a scientific and technical journal published since 2015, covering research in irrigation, land reclamation and water management. The journal continues to appear in both print and electronic formats.

Establishment and development

The basis for establishing the journal was Protocol No. 104 of 24 July 2014 of a meeting of the Council of the Republic of Uzbekistan on water resources accounting, rational management, conservation and efficient use. The journal was registered with the Press and Information Agency of Uzbekistan on 4 March 2015 under Certificate No. 0845. The historical archive includes the first issues: Issues 1 and 2 of 2015.

According to the historical information on the journal’s official website, Decision No. 219/5 of 22 December 2015 of the Presidium of the Higher Attestation Commission of the Republic of Uzbekistan included the journal in the list of publications recommended for publishing dissertation results in technical, agricultural and economic sciences. Its inclusion in these fields is confirmed by the Commission’s official 2016 list, which identifies the institution by its historical name, the Tashkent Institute of Irrigation and Melioration.

Updated editorial requirements from Issue 3 of 2026

Beginning with Issue 3 of 2026, the editorial team began implementing updated requirements for the preparation, assessment and publication of scholarly material, guided by international principles of scholarly publishing. Policies on publication ethics, peer review, authorship, conflicts of interest, data availability, corrections and retractions, as well as open access and licensing terms, were reviewed and clarified.

These changes aim to strengthen the scientific soundness of publications, improve the transparency of editorial decisions and ensure consistency between information on the website and in full-text articles. They do not signify the discontinuation of the print edition and do not, in themselves, establish that all previously published material meets the new requirements. Updating the rules also does not constitute a claim that the journal is included in international databases.

Introduction of DOIs in 2026

The assignment of digital object identifiers (DOIs) to the journal’s scholarly articles was introduced in 2026. Articles in Issue 2 of 2026 already display DOIs; their introduction should therefore be distinguished from the implementation of updated editorial requirements from Issue 3. DOIs provide persistent identification of publications and links to their bibliographic records.

The DOI registration date and the date on which a file is uploaded to the platform may differ from the article’s original publication date. When electronic records are clarified, accurate information about the original publication must be preserved; DOI registration alone does not indicate that a new peer review has been conducted.

Archives and transparency of changes

The historical and updated electronic archives are not yet fully aligned in their coverage and issue designations. The absence of an individual record on the new platform does not mean that the corresponding issue was never published. Information about combined, delayed or unpublished issues should be verified against the original publications and editorial records and must reflect the actual publication history.

Updating policies does not automatically resolve inaccuracies in previously published material. Identified errors in articles, dates, publisher details, licences and metadata require separate verification and correction under the Corrections, Retractions and Post-Publication Updates Policy. Substantive changes to scientific content must be accompanied by a notice accessible to readers; current rules do not substitute for an account of practices in earlier years.
